Procession of the Way of the Cross to Calvary (Good Friday)
The realisation of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the eternal glory of man.
At dawn on Good Friday, as has been done since the 17th century when Calvary was built, the Confraternity of the Holy and True Cross prepares to carry out this pious Way of the Cross procession, probably on the initiative of the Discalced Franciscans of the Convent of St. Francis (Convento de San Francisco) located in the vicinity of this place.
In this procession, the most devout people accompany Our Lord Jesus the Nazarene, together with the Mother of God tormented by the Pain, willing to relieve the Son of God from the weight of the Cross, who carries the torture of the wood and the injustice of the sentence through this Via Dolorosa. Overwhelmed by emotion upon looking at the panting face of Christ and the inconsolable Mary with tears sliding down her cheeks, the devotees witness the proclamation of the fourteen stations recreated by the lay volunteers accompanying the canons along the route through the streets of the Historic Centre and Urban Area of the City of Coria.
