Prcession of the Way of The Cross of Caritas (Holy Tuesday)

The Cross of the Passion of the Lord is carried in the silence of the night.

The medieval city also rediscovers its typical character on the night of Holy Tuesday. Lay penitents summoned by Cáritas Interparroquial relive the suffering of Jesus Christ in the traditional Way of the Cross procession that goes through the winding cobbled streets of the Historic Centre, parallel to the Roman City Walls, in the most absolute spiritual tranquillity.

Narrow streets and squares of the ancient city are converted into Via Dolorosa through which the heavy Cross of the Passion of Christ passes in the silence of the night, accompanied by the faithful devotees who surrender themselves before the injured eternal body of the Son of God. Exaltation of the Holy Cross commemorates the betrayal of Christ and deepens the desolation and pain of the Christian people because of the sins of the world lamented through the shared silence that accompanies the celebration.
