Un oppidum fortifi\u00e9 o\u00f9 ils install\u00e8rent leurs troupeaux de bovins transhumants. Pendant la conqu\u00eate et la domination romaine subs\u00e9quente de la p\u00e9ninsule ib\u00e9rique, l&#8217;ancienne capitale vettone se constitua en Castrum Caecilium Cauriensis \u00e0 partir du 1er si\u00e8cle avant J\u00e9sus-Christ, devenant une municipalit\u00e9 stipendiaire jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 atteindre, pendant le Bas Empire, la citoyennet\u00e9 romaine et se transformer en centre appartenant \u00e0 la province du Lusitanie appartenant au Conventus Emeritensis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La chute agonisante de l&#8217;Empire romain en l&#8217;an 476 pr\u00e9cipita l&#8217;installation de nouveaux habitants venus de diff\u00e9rents lieux de l&#8217;Empire : Souabes, Vandales, Alains et Goths\u2026 ce qui permit \u00e0 l&#8217;ancienne cit\u00e9 romaine de Caurium de devenir, \u00e0 partir du VIe si\u00e8cle apr\u00e8s J\u00e9sus-Christ, un des centres urbains wisigoths les plus importants du nord-ouest de l&#8217;Estr\u00e9madure, dot\u00e9 d&#8217;un si\u00e8ge \u00e9piscopal, comme en t\u00e9moigne la signature du pr\u00e9lat &#8220;Jaquintus, episcopus cauriensis&#8221; dans les Actes du IIIe Concile de Tol\u00e8de (589).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery
