Il devait remplacer d&#8217;autres ponts pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, le premier peut-\u00eatre de facture romaine, et qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 reconstruits semble-t-il quelques fois puisque, vers 1322, sous l&#8217;\u00e9v\u00each\u00e9 de Don Pedro M\u00e9ndez Sotomayor (1317-1325), il existe un document relatant la concession de 40 jours d&#8217;indulgences par quinze \u00e9v\u00eaques r\u00e9unis \u00e0 Valladolid, accord\u00e9s \u00e0 tous ceux qui contribu\u00e8rent \u00e0 sa r\u00e9paration apr\u00e8s une forte crue hivernale en 1321.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, le pont est situ\u00e9 dans son enclave d&#8217;origine mais isol\u00e9 du cours de la rivi\u00e8re qu\u2019il permettait de franchir car, au milieu du XVIIe si\u00e8cle, elle a perdu ses eaux apr\u00e8s une des crues hivernales habituelles et prolong\u00e9es, d\u00e9tournant d\u00e9finitivement la rivi\u00e8re Alag\u00f3n vers son lit actuel, ce qui a conduit \u00e0 la liaison de la ville de Coria par des bateaux pendant deux si\u00e8cles et demi (1647- 1909), car son ancien itin\u00e9raire n&#8217;a pas pu \u00eatre restitu\u00e9. Moment \u00e0 partir duquel le couplet suivant est devenu c\u00e9l\u00e8bre dans ces contr\u00e9es : Coria a un pont sans rivi\u00e8re et une rivi\u00e8re sans pont.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
