The unmistakable symbols of a city with more than two millennia of uninterrupted history shaped by the different peoples\u2014Vettones, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, Jews and Christians\u2014that settled in these abundantly fertile lands and left their traces scattered across the most evocative corners of its charming Historic Centre. It received the status of Cultural Heritage of Spain in the Historical Complex category, thereby becoming one of the oldest centres in the rich lands of Extremadura and the ninth oldest in all of Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"margin-bottom-50\"><br>In essence, a calm and relaxing walk down the quiet alleys, squares and courtyards, that mark the irregular medieval layout of the city within the defensive walls, can offer an insight into the archaic structure of its ancient layout, its traditions and the different chapters in the history of the municipality, that are partly evoked by its
