Pedro M\u00e9ndez Sotomayor (1317-1325), est\u00e1 documentada la concesi\u00f3n de \u201c40 d\u00edas de indulgencias\u201d por quince Obispos que, reunidos en Valladolid, otorgaban a todos aquellos que contribuyeran a su reparaci\u00f3n tras una fuerte crecida invernal en 1321.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Actualmente, el Puente se encuentra asentado en su enclave originario pero aislado del curso fluvial al que deb\u00eda salvar pues, a mediados del siglo XVII, perdi\u00f3 sus aguas tras una de las habituales y prolongadas crecidas invernales desvi\u00e1ndose definitivamente el r\u00edo Alag\u00f3n hacia su actual cauce, lo que propici\u00f3 el que la Ciudad de Coria quedara comunicada por barcas durante dos siglos y medio (1647- 1909), al no poder restituirlo a su antiguo itinerario. Momento a partir del cu\u00e1l se hizo c\u00e9lebre la coplilla por estos lares de: \u201cCoria tiene un puente sin r\u00edo y un r\u00edo sin puente\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
